A vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 805 near La Jolla Village Drive in San Diego left one person dead early in the morning.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the crash was reported at 4:22 a.m. and initially logged as a traffic collision with unknown injuries before being updated to a fatality. Logs noted a vehicle blocking the No. 2 lane that appeared to have hit the center divider, with the vehicle half engulfed in flames and all vehicles on the right shoulder. A reporting party saw flames and smelled smoke, and a duplicate call mentioned an unknown person lying on the ground near the engulfed vehicle. The logs show notifications to the medical examiner’s office and fire department, with lanes 1 and 2 blocked.
CHP units were assigned starting at 4:24 a.m., arrived on scene by 4:28 a.m. and were at the scene by 4:33 a.m. A tow truck was requested but later canceled.
The crash involved three vehicles, including a silver sedan facing sideways.
Identities of those involved and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
