A vehicle overturned and caught fire on northbound Interstate 110 just south of 3rd Street in central Los Angeles early Sunday morning, leaving one person dead.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the incident was reported at 1:46 a.m. when callers described an unknown color sedan on its roof with flames coming from the vehicle and a party out of the vehicle blocking the slow lane. Additional reports described a black four-door sedan on its roof and on fire with one victim on the ground and parties out of the vehicle. Officers notified the fire department at 1:52 a.m.
The vehicle was fully engulfed in the collector portion of the freeway, and officers held all lanes just south of James M. Wood Boulevard. Firefighters requested the main portion of the freeway closed. Officers diverted traffic off James M. Wood Boulevard.
Officers requested a flatbed tow truck at 1:53 a.m., which was later canceled. They also requested a regular tow and an evidence tow at 2:04 a.m.
Officers requested a hard closure and SigAlert at 2:06 a.m. for the collector road to 6th Street on northbound Interstate 110 with unknown duration.
Units arrived on scene starting at 1:51 a.m.
