One dead after jumping from northbound I-280 to westbound SR-92 in Redwood City

A person jumped from northbound Interstate 280 onto westbound state Route 92 in Redwood City early Thursday morning, leaving one person dead.

According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the incident was reported at 4:34 a.m. Logs indicate the person jumped from northbound 280 to westbound 92 underneath the overpass, just west of a Caltrans building on the right-hand side. A CHP unit reported the person was deceased, with fire personnel on scene to confirm. Authorities notified the San Mateo Sheriff’s Office for medical response and the coroner, who planned to contact a CHP sergeant.

Another CHP unit was requested to check for a vehicle related to the incident.

CHP units were assigned at 4:42 a.m. and arrived on scene by 4:51 a.m.

The identity of the deceased and the cause of the incident were not immediately available.
