A vehicle crash early Thursday morning on State Route 41 just south of Road 425B in Oakhurst left one person dead.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the incident was reported at 2:14 a.m. when a caller said she heard a loud collision and screaming. The vehicle was on fire, and authorities notified Cal Fire. The logs noted debris in the roadway.
Madera County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived on scene. Caltrans was notified for traffic control, and a tow truck was requested for evidence.
The coroner’s estimated time of arrival was two hours.
Southbound lanes reopened at 5:37 a.m., and a CHP unit followed the tow truck to the yard.
CHP units arrived on scene around 2:20 a.m. and cleared the area around 5:48 a.m.
The identity of the deceased and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
