A head-on collision between a black SUV and a white sedan on Foresthill Road east of Old Foresthill a few miles from Auburn left one person dead late afternoon.
California Highway Patrol dispatch logs reported the crash at 3:57 p.m. Logs indicated both vehicles were smoking, parties were trapped and injured, and lanes were blocked in both directions. An ambulance was requested.
Logs showed the collision involved major front-end damage. A tow truck was requested for a flatbed, with an additional tow possibly needed for evidence.
Foresthill Road was closed for an unknown duration. A significant alert was issued for the freeway.
Units were assigned at 4:02 p.m. and 4:03 p.m., arriving at the scene around 4:10 p.m. and 4:11 p.m. One unit cleared at 4:04 p.m., with another at scene by 4:18 p.m.
Identities of those involved and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
