A crash on eastbound State Route 166 at mile marker 43 left one person dead Wednesday evening near Santa Maria.
The California Highway Patrol dispatch logs reported the incident at 6:41 p.m., with details indicating a child was in the vehicle and the vehicle remained on its wheels. Logs noted no traffic hazard and that authorities notified the fire communications center.
Multiple vehicles pulled over on the right-hand side. A CHP unit inquired if fire personnel were on scene at 7:13 p.m.
Units were assigned and en route starting at 6:46 p.m., with one unit cleared by 6:52 p.m. and others en route by 7 p.m.
Identities and the cause were not immediately available.
