A motorcycle crash on the transition from eastbound State Route 60 to northbound Interstate 605 in Santa Fe Springs left one person dead early in the morning.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the incident was reported at 2:27 a.m. as a motorcycle down on the transition road, described as a possible solo vehicle collision with the motorcycle blocking lanes. A witness in a white and green semitruck attempted to block the transition road. Authorities notified the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
A tow truck was requested at 2:33 a.m., and a flatbed tow truck was dispatched.
Units arrived on scene starting at 2:40 a.m.
A SigAlert was issued at 2:46 a.m. for two hours, and Caltrans was requested for a hard closure of the transition road.
Both northbound and southbound transition roads were shut down at 2:49 a.m.
The eastbound No. 1, 2 and 3 lanes of State Route 60 were reopened at 2:52 a.m.
A witness later reported that vehicles were driving over flares and ignoring them.
Media arrived on scene at 2:49 a.m., and the Traffic Management Center notified media of the SigAlert.
Identities and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
