A vehicle overturned and caught fire on Interstate 5 southbound just north of State Route 198 near Coalinga, leaving one person dead early Tuesday morning.
California Highway Patrol dispatch logs show the incident was first reported as a car fire at 2:22 a.m. and later changed to a fatality. Logs indicate a solo vehicle was involved, with the coroner arriving on scene and a tow truck requested for the completely burned vehicle. No ambulance requests or CPR efforts were noted.
The vehicle was described as a blue 2004 GMC Yukon with only the front license plate remaining, which was no longer attached.
CHP units arrived on scene around 2:37 a.m. and cleared the area by 6:01 a.m.
Authorities did not immediately release the identity of the deceased or the cause of the crash.
