A vehicle overturned and caught fire on Interstate 5 southbound just north of State Route 198 near Coalinga early Wednesday morning, leaving one person dead.
California Highway Patrol dispatch logs reported the incident at 2:21 a.m., initially as a car fire before updating it to a fatality at 6:01 a.m.
Logs indicated a solo vehicle fatality, with the vehicle fully engulfed in flames.
Two occupants were initially reported out of the vehicle and walking around, according to a reporting party.
The vehicle was described as an overturned 2004 blue GMC Yukon in the center divider, with front-end and rear-end damage.
CHP notified Cal Fire, and a reporting party advised that fire personnel arrived on scene.
A coroner arrived on scene at 4:57 a.m.
CHP requested a tow truck for the completely burned vehicle.
Units arrived on scene between 2:37 a.m. and 2:45 a.m., and cleared the scene between 5:08 a.m. and 6:01 a.m.
