A traffic collision Thursday afternoon on Wolf Road in the Grass Valley area left one person dead.
The California Highway Patrol dispatch logs reported the crash at 3:49 p.m. at 11096 Wolf Road, initially classified as a collision with unknown injuries, then updated to a collision with ambulance en route, followed by major injuries and later changed to a fatality at 10:22 p.m.
Logs show the vehicle went off the roadway into a ditch and overturned on its roof, about 20 to 30 feet down an embankment, with no lanes blocked.
The driver was reported walking northbound on Wolf Road and in the roadway shortly after the crash.
Fire personnel arrived on scene, and a tow truck was requested.
CHP units were assigned at 3:51 p.m., with one unit arriving at 4:04 p.m. and another at 4:21 p.m.
A paramedic requested contact with the handling officer regarding the collision.
The problem was updated to major injuries at 5:05 p.m.
A coroner was notified with an estimated arrival of 40 to 45 minutes, later updated to 30 minutes.
Units cleared the scene between 4:53 p.m. and 7:54 p.m.
Identities and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
