A crash on southbound Interstate 880 in Hayward left one person dead early Tuesday morning.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the incident was reported at 4:01 a.m. and involved a white van and a sedan. Officers confirmed the fatality on scene. An ambulance was notified at 4:04 a.m. and again at 4:13 a.m.
The crash blocked the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes, with other lanes remaining open. Officers requested a traffic break and arrived on scene starting at 4:04 a.m. Tow trucks were notified at 4:38 a.m. and 5:02 a.m. to remove a Toyota sedan with major front-end damage and another vehicle without a flatbed.
Units cleared the scene starting at 5:15 a.m.
Identities of those involved and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
