A traffic collision on Interstate 15 northbound near Barstow left one person dead late Monday night.
California Highway Patrol dispatch logs show the incident was reported at 11:55 p.m. and initially classified as a traffic collision with unknown injuries before being updated to a fatality at 5:59 a.m.
Logs indicate a red Lexus sedan was speeding at 100 mph, swerved into the center divider and crashed into a disabled recreational vehicle on the right shoulder, scattering debris across the roadway.
A female occupant began walking northbound away from the vehicle, which had its keys still inside and possibly left the scene, according to the logs.
The incident stemmed from an open phone line with no distress heard, and the driver reported being in the vehicle with a friend.
CHP units were assigned starting at 11:57 p.m., with some clearing the scene by 12:08 a.m. and others by 12:48 a.m.
Identities of those involved and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
