One Dead After Pedestrian Struck on Northbound I-5 in Stockton Area

A pedestrian was pronounced dead early Tuesday morning after an incident on northbound Interstate 5 just north of the French Camp Road off-ramp in the Stockton area, leaving debris blocking lanes.

According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the incident was reported at 4:34 a.m. when callers described a person lying in the middle lane. Authorities notified a medical responder at 4:35 a.m., though no details on ambulance response or resuscitation efforts were logged.

Logs show a unit initiated a traffic break on northbound lanes approaching French Camp Road at 4:41 a.m. A witness reported an unknown sedan on the right shoulder with its occupant appearing ready to enter traffic lanes at 4:39 a.m.

A shopping cart was reported as a traffic hazard blocking all lanes, mostly in the slow lane, with an additional retail basket also obstructing roadways at 4:41 a.m.

A CHP unit arrived at the scene with fire personnel at 4:43 a.m., stopping all lanes. Additional units were assigned and en route starting at 4:36 a.m.

The identities of those involved and the cause of the incident were not immediately available.
