One Dead in Chevy Suburban Crash into Tree in Chico Area

A vehicle crashed into a tree Saturday night in the Chico area, leaving one person dead.

According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the crash was reported at 8:25 p.m. at 9601 Midway just south of Roble. Logs described a Chevrolet Suburban that struck a tree, with the vehicle smoking but not blocking the roadway. Firefighters arrived on scene. The vehicle was occupied by two people. A tow truck was requested. Logs later noted minor injuries to a dog and a fatality involving a cat in the vehicle, with no mention of ambulance requests or CPR efforts. A supervisor was notified on call.

CHP units were assigned at 8:26 p.m. and arrived on scene at 8:31 p.m. One unit transported the injured dog to a veterinary clinic.

The identities of those involved and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
