A traffic collision on state Route 1 near Yardarm Drive left one person dead late Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the collision was reported at 4:53 p.m. and initially classified as a traffic collision with unknown injuries before being updated to a fatality at 5:32 p.m.
Dispatch logs show one person was transported by air ambulance with major injuries, while a helicopter response was canceled by fire officials.
CHP officials issued a SigAlert at 5:31 p.m., blocking northbound and southbound lanes on state Route 1 at Yardarm Drive due to the crash, with an unknown estimated time for reopening and expected delays.
The California Department of Transportation was notified, with an estimated arrival time of about 45 minutes.
Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office officials said they would not respond until CHP units arrived on scene, and state parks officials were contacted for possible assistance with an estimated arrival of 1 hour and 15 minutes.
CHP units were assigned and en route starting at 5:06 p.m., with one unit cleared from the scene at 5:22 p.m.
Identities of those involved and the cause of the collision were not immediately available.
