A multi-vehicle crash on northbound state Route 87 just north of Curtner Avenue in San Jose left one person dead Friday afternoon.
The crash was reported at 2:51 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, which indicated a fatality involving four vehicles. Logs show an ambulance was requested, and a passerby reported one person possibly having a seizure.
The crash blocked the No. 2 and 3 lanes, prompting a SigAlert and the closure of the Curtner onramp to northbound Route 87. CHP units arrived on scene starting at 2:53 p.m., with fire department personnel responding shortly after.
Tow trucks were requested for a dark blue Toyota Sienna van with rear damage, a Nissan pickup truck with moderate front-end damage, an Infiniti Q50 with right front damage and a Toyota Sienna with moderate rear damage. One tow request for the Infiniti was canceled.
A citizen reported to San Jose police a vehicle driving the wrong way on the Curtner onramp to avoid traffic. All lanes were reopened by 5:22 p.m., and the Curtner onramp was reopened by 5:38 p.m.
CHP units cleared the scene by 6:18 p.m. Identities of those involved and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
