A multi-vehicle crash on northbound U.S. 101 just south of White Oak Avenue in the West Valley area left one person dead early in the morning.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the incident was reported at 1:47 a.m. when a black Honda Civic was blocking the No. 1 lane with hazard lights activated. Logs indicated one person was trapped under a vehicle. Firefighters arrived on scene approximately two minutes before a CHP supervisor requested an additional unit to close the White Oak onramp to northbound lanes.
The crash involved a white sport utility vehicle, a black sedan, a black SUV and another black sedan blocking one or two lanes. A separate report described a silver Honda Pilot colliding with three vehicles and blocking the No. 1 lane. A CHP unit initiated a traffic break at Hayvenhurst Avenue.
CHP units arrived on scene between 1:55 a.m. and 2:20 a.m. Officers requested evidence tows for a gray Toyota sedan with major rear and front-end damage, a white Jeep Cherokee and a black SUV. An additional tow was requested for a Honda Pilot with front-end damage.
The identity of the deceased and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
