One Dead in Northbound US395 Rollover in Bishop Area

A rollover crash on northbound U.S. 395 at Gorge Road left one person dead Monday evening in the Bishop area.

California Highway Patrol dispatch logs reported the incident at 6:04 p.m., with callers describing a male lying in the roadway and a vehicle rollover. Authorities notified the coroner at 7:31 p.m., with an estimated arrival time of one hour.

CHP units arrived at the scene around 6:27 p.m. and blocked all northbound lanes initially.

Caltrans was notified and arrived to close the No. 1 lane, leaving the No. 2 lane open with traffic flowing.

A tow company inquired about the vehicle’s position, and officers confirmed it was not on its roof or in a ditch.

The vehicle was towed from the scene, and officers followed it to an office.

Logs show the vehicle was entered into a system at 9:46 p.m., with verification from the stolen vehicle system at 9:51 p.m.

One person was taken into custody at 9:40 p.m.

Units cleared the scene around 9:34 p.m., with additional activity noted until 12:30 a.m.

Identities of those involved and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
