One Dead in Overturned Vehicle Crash on NB US-101 at I-405 in West Valley

A vehicle overturned on northbound U.S. 101 at Interstate 405 in the West Valley area early morning, leaving one person dead.

According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the incident was reported at 3:03 a.m. when a black sedan was partially blocking the slow lane with debris scattered in the lanes. The vehicle had overturned but was back on its wheels. Authorities notified the Los Angeles County coroner at 4:17 a.m. with case number 2026-03832, though an estimated time of arrival was unknown.

CHP units arrived on scene starting at 3:09 a.m. Fire personnel were on scene by 3:19 a.m. A tow truck was requested at 3:07 a.m. and later for a motorcycle at 3:31 a.m., with the owner requesting it be taken northbound on 405 just south of Burbank Boulevard.

A Sigalert was issued at 3:28 a.m., diverting traffic to the 405. Lanes 2 through 4 on northbound 101 at 405 were shut down, along with the transition from the 5 to southbound 405. The No. 1 lane to westbound 101 and the No. 2 lane to northbound 405 remained open, with all others closed for an unknown duration. Caltrans was requested at 3:22 a.m. for 100-150 feet of guardrail damage and a hard closure, with an estimated time of arrival of 40 minutes.

The CHP requested a hard closure for Caltrans, noting wood debris from the guardrail in the lanes. Best access was via northbound 405 to northbound 101, as the northbound 405 on-ramp was blocked.

Identities of those involved and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
