One Dead in Redding Area Crash on Clear Creek Road

Late Thursday night, a traffic collision on Clear Creek Road near Redding left one person dead.

According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the incident was reported at 10:53 p.m. and involved a solo occupant in the vehicle. Authorities notified Shasta Cal Fire at 11:01 p.m.

The vehicle, described as a Toyota Corolla, went off the road down an embankment about 10 feet, facing away from the roadway with four good tires. A CHP unit requested a tow truck at 11:08 p.m., and westbound lanes were blocked.

The reporting party, who had juveniles in her vehicle, stated she was previously blocked by the individual before leaving the area. She returned to her vehicle with the juveniles, and the crash location was about a 10-minute drive from her starting point on Placer Road via Cloverdale Road. The crash was not blocking the roadway.

CHP units were assigned at 10:55 p.m. and 10:56 p.m., arriving on scene between 11:02 p.m. and 11:08 p.m. One unit cleared the scene at 11:13 p.m.

A tow request was canceled at 11:12 p.m., followed by a rotation request to Lake City Towing, which was notified at 11:14 p.m.

A CHP unit noted being on scene possibly on the right shoulder at 11:02 p.m. Another unit directed the sheriff’s office to respond to the reporting party while CHP handled the collision.

Identities of those involved and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
