One dead in SUV-tree crash on southbound 29 in Clear Lake Area

A vehicle crash on southbound Highway 29 near Clear Lake left one person dead Wednesday morning.

According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the crash was reported at 9:37 a.m. and involved a gray SUV striking a tree. Authorities notified the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, which arrived on scene. No roadway blockage was reported. Officials also notified Cal Fire and Caltrans. A downed utility pole with no lines affected was reported, and AT&T was notified.

A tow truck was requested for the vehicle, which had a flat left tire and major front end damage.

CHP units were assigned starting at 9:44 a.m., with the first arriving on scene at 9:54 a.m. Units cleared the scene by noon.

Identities and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
