Late Wednesday night, a vehicle fire stemming from a crash on northbound state Route 125 at Otay Mesa Road in San Diego left one person dead.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the incident was reported at 10:31 p.m. as a car fire and later updated at 10:47 p.m. to a fatality. Logs noted a traffic collision on Otay Mesa Road that authorities believe started on the freeway, with an iPhone crash notification alerting responders.
Multiple CHP units were assigned starting at 10:35 p.m. and went en route by 10:44 p.m.
