One Dead on Northbound US 101 at Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Area

A person died after entering the water near the Golden Gate Bridge late Monday afternoon, authorities said.

According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the incident was reported at 5:16 p.m. on northbound U.S. Highway 101 just south of the bridge’s midspan in Marin County, with no associated vehicles involved. A reporting party walking on the pedestrian walkway spotted the subject in the water near light pole 95, prompting notifications to the Coast Guard and Golden Gate Bridge authorities.

The Coast Guard dispatched a boat to the scene, though no estimated time of arrival was provided initially. A CHP unit was assigned at 5:18 p.m. and arrived on scene by 5:36 p.m., while another unit reached the area at 5:31 p.m.

The Coast Guard reported being on scene at a dock by 5:40 p.m. Authorities notified the Marin County Sheriff’s Office regarding coroner involvement, with a follow-up phone call planned.
