A crash on northbound state Route 55 just south of state Route 91 left one person dead early in the morning in the Santa Ana area.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the incident was reported at 12:23 a.m. when callers described a black Lexus sedan that collided with the center divider and was blocking lanes. A female was reported lying on the ground, and authorities later confirmed a fatality and notified the coroner at 12:54 a.m.
The crash involved a vehicle on its side blocking the high-occupancy vehicle lane and No. 1 lane. A truck was possibly involved and stopped on the right shoulder.
CHP officers issued a SigAlert at 12:35 a.m., diverting all northbound traffic off at Lincoln Avenue with no estimated time for reopening. They requested a tow truck for evidence removal and asked police to shut down the onramp to northbound lanes.
Multiple CHP units arrived on scene starting at 12:25 a.m., with additional units enroute and at scene through 12:50 a.m.
Identities of those involved and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
