One Killed in Eastbound SR178 Crash West of Poison Canyon in Mojave Area

A vehicle crash on eastbound State Route 178 west of Poison Canyon left one person dead Friday night, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol dispatch logs reported the collision at 8:24 p.m. in the Mojave area. A reporting party described the vehicle as all smashed up with no one inside. The incident was initially logged as a traffic collision with an ambulance en route, then updated to unknown injuries before being changed back. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a death at the scene east of Trona Road and west of Poison Canyon, with notification at 8:31 p.m.

CHP units were assigned and en route starting at 8:29 p.m., with one unit clearing the scene at 8:35 p.m.

No lane blockages were reported.

The identities of those involved and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
