A multi-vehicle crash involving a Toyota Prius and an SUV left one person dead early in the morning on Interstate 680 northbound, just north of State Route 84 in the Dublin area.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the incident was reported at 1:57 a.m. when callers described two vehicles involved, with an SUV overturned and on fire, possibly with a party inside. Logs noted a vehicle engulfed in flames, major injury trauma and a party transported to Washington Hospital.
CHP units were assigned at 2:06 a.m. and arrived on scene shortly after, with lanes 3 and 4 blocked. Fire was reported visible, and authorities notified the Alameda County Regional Emergency Communications Center for fire response.
Logs indicated debris in the roadway and a three-vehicle collision, with one vehicle on fire. A CHP supervisor notified Caltrans of the need for a hard closure and confirmed it would be required due to a wrong-way driver.
The crash involved two vehicles with major injuries and a possible death, as one vehicle was engulfed in flames.
CHP units cleared the incident at 2:31 a.m.
