A vehicle overturned into water off Highway 299 about 1 mile east of Cedarville, leaving one person dead Wednesday afternoon.
California Highway Patrol dispatch logs show the crash was reported at 3:59 p.m. Modoc County Sheriff’s Office was notified and medical personnel were paged. A sheriff’s office fire unit arrived at the scene.
A CHP officer requested a tow truck for a small white SUV on its roof and partially submerged about 20 feet off the roadway. The tow request was later canceled and a rotation tow was assigned to Performance Towing.
Caltrans was notified.
Two CHP units arrived at the scene at 6 p.m. and cleared the scene at 7:12 p.m. A stolen vehicle system storage entry was sent at 7:18 p.m.
The identity of the person who died was not immediately available. The cause of the crash was not immediately available.
