A vehicle struck a pedestrian late Friday on southbound State Route 99 just north of the North Avenue off-ramp in Fresno, leaving one person dead.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the incident was reported at 9:59 p.m. when a driver said they hit a male pedestrian. Logs described it as a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision with a red Dodge Charger in the fast lane.
Multiple vehicles pulled over to stop traffic. A CHP unit requested a tow truck at 10 p.m. Another unit started a traffic break from Highway 41 at 10:01 p.m.
Logs noted a possible vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision with a traffic hazard in the No. 1 lane at 10:02 p.m. An on-track delivery vehicle stopped in front of a party, with the red Dodge Charger stopped behind.
All involved were in the No. 1 lane at 10:04 p.m. A CHP unit reported all traffic stopped, arrived on scene with a traffic hazard in the No. 1 lane and a vehicle in the gore point at North Avenue at 10:05 p.m.
The No. 3 lane was opened and traffic started moving at 10:12 p.m.
CHP units were assigned starting at 10 p.m., with arrivals on scene from 10:09 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. Units cleared the scene from 10:38 p.m. to 11:15 p.m.
Identities of those involved and the cause of the collision were not immediately available.
